  • Piracetam is a cerebral stimulator. It is also called CNS Booster. Piracetam improves microcirculation of brain and also modulates cholinergic transmission which gives a stimulus to cognitive functions like memory, thought and learning. Piracetam is also helpful in cerebrovascular accidents like stroke and aphasia.. The drug influences neuronal and vascular functions and influences cognitive function without acting as a sedative or stimulant. Piracetam improves the function of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine via muscarinic cholinergic (ACh) receptors, which are implicated in memory processes. Piracetam is thought to increase cell membrane permeability. It has been found to increase oxygen consumption in the brain.

  • INDICATIONS

Cortical Myoclonus is mostly epileptic. Jerks are generated in the contralateral frontal cortex and affect the distal limbs, arms more than legs.

Dyslexia is Impairment of ability to comprehend written language, due to a central lesion.

Dementia, also known as senility, is a broad category of brain diseases that cause a long term and often gradual decrease in the ability to think and remember that is great enough to affect a person's daily functioning. Other common symptoms include emotional problems, problems with language, and a decrease in motivation.

Alzheimer's disease is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that usually starts slowly and gets worse over time. It is the cause of 60% to 70% of cases of dementia. The most common early symptom is difficulty in remembering recent events (short-term memory loss). As the disease advances, symptoms can include problems with language, disorientation (including easily getting lost), mood swings, loss of motivation, not managing self care, and behavioural issues

Vertigo is when a person feels as if they or the objects around them are moving when they are not. Often it feels like a spinning or swaying movement. This may be associated with nausea, vomiting, sweating, or difficulties walking. It is typically worsened when the head is moved. Vertigo is the most common type of dizziness.

Stroke is when poor blood flow to the brain results in cell death. There are two main types of stroke: ischemic, due to lack of blood flow, and hemorrhagic, due to bleeding. They result in part of the brain not functioning properly. If symptoms last less than one or two hours it is known as a transient ischemic attack (TIA) or mini-stroke. Hemorrhagic strokes may also be associated with a severe headache. The symptoms of a stroke can be permanent. The main risk factor for stroke is high blood pressure. Other risk factors include tobacco smoking, obesity, high blood cholesterol , diabetes mellitus, previous TIA, and atrial fibrillation. An ischemic stroke is caused by blockage of a blood vessel. A hemorrhagic stroke is caused by bleeding either directly into the brain or into the space surrounding the brain. Low blood sugar may cause similar symptoms.

  • NOTE

Aphasia is an inability to comprehend and formulate language because of damage to specific brain regions.

Neurotransmitters are special messengers, are endogenous chemicals that enable neurotransmission.

Neuroplasticity, also known as brain plasticity or neural plasticity that describes lasting change to the brain throughout an individual's life course.

Cognitive disorders are a category of mental health disorders.
