INTRODUCTION

EACH TABLET CONTAINS: FLUNARIZINE DIHYDROCHLORIDE B.P. EQV. TO FLUNARIZINE 5/10 MG.

  • Flunarizine is a drug classified as a calcium channel blocker. Flunarizine is a non-selective calcium entry blocker with binding properties and histamine H1 blocking activity. It is effective in the prophylaxis of migraine, occlusive peripheral vascular disease, vertigo of central and peripheral origin, and as an adjuvant in the therapy of epilepsy. It may help to reduce the severity and duration of attacks of paralysis associated with the more serious form of alternating hemiplegia. Flunarizine has been shown to significantly reduce headache frequency and severity in both adults and children. Flunarizine has some side effects including weight gain, extrapyramidal effects, drowsiness and depression, it is contraindicated in hypotension, heart failure and arrhythmia.

  • INDICATIONS

Migraine prophylaxis is a primary headache disorder characterized by recurrent headaches that are moderate to severe. Typically, the headaches affect one half of the head, are pulsating in nature, and last from two to 72 hours. Associated symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light, sound, or smell. The pain is generally made worse by physical activity. Migraines are believed to be due to a mixture of environmental and genetic factors. About two-thirds of cases run in families. The underlying mechanisms are not fully known. It is, however, believed to involve the nerves and blood vessels of the brain.

Vertigo is in dizzy condition feeling of lightheaded or lose in balance. Feeling of spinning head is vertigo. Vertigo is the most common type of dizziness

  • NOTE

Nicergoline is an ergot derivative used to treat senile dementia and other disorders with vascular origins. It has been found to increase mental agility and enhance clarity and perception. It decreases vascular resistance and increases arterial blood flow in the brain, improving the utilization of oxygen and glucose by brain cells.

Betahistine dihydrochloride is an anti-vertigo drug. It is commonly prescribed for balance disorders or to alleviate vertigo symptoms.

Pentoxifylline is a xanthine(a purine base) used as a drug to treat muscle pain in people with peripheral artery disease.

Vincamine is a peripheral vasodilator that increases blood flow to the brain.

Hemiplegia is in its most severe form, complete paralysis of half of the body.

Extrapyramidal side effects (EPSE) are drug-induced movement disorders that include acute and tardive symptoms. These symptoms include dystonia (continuous spasms and muscle contractions), akathisia (motor restlessness), parkinsonism (characteristic symptoms such as rigidity), bradykinesia (slowness of movement), and tremor, and tardive dyskinesia (irregular, jerky movements). Antipsychotics are often discontinued due to inefficacy and intolerable side effects such as extrapyramidal symptoms.

Cardiac arrhythmia also known as cardiac dysrhythmia or irregular heartbeat, is a group of conditions in which the heartbeat is irregular, too fast, or too slow. A heart rate that is too fast – above 100 beats per minute in adults – is called tachycardia and a heart rate that is too slow – below 60 beats per minute – is called bradycardia
